Success rate in context
When success rates are reported, the claims are often surrounded by a degree of controversy. This is not least due to the fact that it is near impossible to source, let alone verify, industry-wide figures.
While a 30% success rate may be typical for ICT projects, we acknowledge that other project sectors may have varying success rates. It is well known that building projects, for instance, enjoy higher success rates. Nevertheless it is significant that the overall success rate has remained conspicuously unchanged over the years.
With regards to the remaining 70% of ‘unsuccessful’ projects, we recognise that these projects suffer varying degrees of failure.
In the final analysis, however, the overall project success will always reflect the combined performance of wider project teams.
